"The Armadillo" by Frank Owen Gehry
The renowned architect Frank Owen Gehry was also inspired by the fascinating bus stop project. Its bold dome construction, consisting of shimmering metal panels, is reminiscent of an armadillo. But that was not all: the roof, formed from multiple folded and spherically deformed stainless steel sheets, sparked a debate about its resemblance to prehistoric dinosaur skeletons. This discussion led to the Braunschweiger Platz bus stop being nicknamed "Frank's Dinosaur".
Gehry, known for his striking use of stainless steel panels in masterpieces such as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, always expresses his creative streak through unconventional forms. A prime example is the fascinatingly twisted Gehry Tower near the Stone Gate, a nine-storey building he designed for Üstra. This impressive structure was finally presented to the public on 28 June 2001.
Bus lines 128 and 134 stop at the bus stop Braunschweiger Platz, and the tunnel station of the city railway is in the immediate vicinity.
